Africa Carbon Forum

The ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with Kommunalkredit Public Consulting (KPC), the Belgian Federal JI/CDM Programme and the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO), will jointly be hosting a side event, titled “Harnessing Carbon Market Opportunities in Africa", at the African Carbon Forum, UNCC Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the 19^thof April, 2012.

Through this side event, ECREEE, and its partners, aims to:

• Inform the audience on ongoing initiatives, expertise and experience in the area of carbon markets and low-carbon development in Africa.
• Disseminate information on key findings within the region.
• Identify opportunities for future engagements.

The side event will cover the following priority areas:

• Promoting Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Investment and Business Frameworks in West Africa in the context of the NAMAs (ECREEE).
• Understanding the roles and opportunities for CDM and NAMAs in Africa (Kommunalkredit Public Consulting).
• Initiatives of the Belgian federal JI/CDM programme to promote the CDM in African LDCs (Belgian federal JI/CDM Programme)
• Describing early experiences and challenges in setting up NAMAs (Nordic Environment Finance Corporation NEFCO)

The targeted audience includes all stakeholders in carbon markets and low-carbon development in Africa. Specifically, this side event is tailored to be of interest to project developers, policy makers, and investors.
