CEM Initiative to Boost West Africa Efficiency Efforts

An energy efficiency initiative under the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) is supporting the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) towards achieving its regional energy efficiency objective of doubling the annual improvement in energy efficiency by 2020

The CEM Super-Efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative is working with ECREEE to support efforts towards creating a regional system of appliance efficiency standards and labels (S&L). SEAD technical support is providing a foundation that will allow governments to more easily adopt cost-effective appliance efficiency policies and programs.

This work and efforts to create a regional approach to energy efficiency standards offers significant potential for accelerating efficiency improvements in the region,” said Gabrielle Dreyfus with the CEM SEAD Initiative.

SEAD support includes estimating potential energy savings, assessing existing national and regional institutional capacity and legal frameworks and identifying opportunities and challenges for implementing regional S&L policies.
